The University of Minnesota and Metropolitan State University have campuses in town and join the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and Vesper College in offering students in the area an unrivaled college education.

A large portion of the Anoka workforce is made up of the production, transportation, manufacturing and material moving industries, which employ many workers in town. As the largest city in Minnesota, Minneapolis also offers many opportunities for those seeking work. The economy here is centered around commerce, finance, rail and trucking services and healthcare, and many major businesses, including the Target Corporation, Ameriprise Financial, PepsiAmericas and Carlson Companies, are headquartered in town.
