According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Falcon Heights, Minn., was just 5,321 in 2010. Despite its small population, Falcon Heights is actually quite central to many urban centers: It is one of the Twin Cities metro's inner-ring suburbs and is located less than 10 miles from the downtowns of both Minneapolis and St. Paul. At one point, the land that would become Falcon Heights was located within the boundaries of Rose Township, which also included portions of nearby Lauderdale, Roseville, St. Paul, Minneapolis and St. Anthony. The area, which was settled as early as 1843, was finally separated into respective communities via annexations and incorporations in 1859. Falcon Heights got its name around the year 1930 and was incorporated in 1949.

One of the city's most prominent neighborhoods is University Grove, which was originally created by the University of Minnesota for the purpose of housing faculty and staff. Additionally, approximately 28 percent of Falcon Heights residents are enrolled in a graduate degree program.
