Overview of Falcon Heights

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Falcon Heights, Minn., was just 5,321 in 2010. Despite its small population, Falcon Heights is actually quite central to many urban centers: It is one of the Twin Cities metro's inner-ring suburbs and is located less than 10 miles from the downtowns of both Minneapolis and St. Paul. Those searching for Falcon Heights apartments for rent will appreciate the city's small-town feel, proximity to the Twin Cities and family-friendly vibe.

Living in Falcon Heights, MN

At one point, the land that would become Falcon Heights was located within the boundaries of Rose Township, which also included portions of nearby Lauderdale, Roseville, St. Paul, Minneapolis and St. Anthony. The area, which was settled as early as 1843, was finally separated into respective communities via annexations and incorporations in 1859. Falcon Heights got its name around the year 1930 and was incorporated in 1949.

Much of the culture of Falcon Heights is traced to the nearby University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. One of the city's most prominent neighborhoods is University Grove, which was originally created by the University of Minnesota for the purpose of housing faculty and staff. According to City-Data, 32 percent of Falcon Heights residents work in educational services, and more than 30 percent of residents hold a bachelor's degree or higher, which is significantly higher than Minnesota's state average. Additionally, approximately 28 percent of Falcon Heights residents are enrolled in a graduate degree program.

Falcon Heights Attractions and Special Events

Because of its small population and proximity to the Twin Cities, Falcon Heights is located very close to many regional attractions and events. In fact, the Minnesota State Fairgrounds share a border with Falcon Heights. The fair, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, is a widely anticipated annual event for many Minnesotans.
