Plus, did we mention the park? And because it’s within walking distance of both Downtown and Uptown, your work/play/happiness balance will be constantly harmonious.
Loring Park Arts & Culture
Oh, that park we mentioned earlier? It’s only known as “the best-located, best-financed, best-designed, and best-maintained public open space in America.” Loring Park (the actual park) is truly the heart of the neighborhood. All year round, residents enjoy an array of festivals, films, concerts, and community activities in this natural haven. Whether you’re attending the “Movies in the Park” series, decorating your Loring Park apartment with goods from the art fair, or simply going for a stroll through the famous sculpture garden, you’ll probably find yourself frequenting the park as most residents do.
If you’re looking for more cultural entertainment, check out the Walker Museum and Community Arts center. Additionally, apartments in Loring Park are just a walk or bike ride to Uptown and Downtown. From the Orchestra Hall to the Theater District, the rich culture of MPLS is never far from your apartment.
Loring Park Food & Nightlife
Now this was a hard one to score…because it kind of depends on you.
The neighborhood of Loring Park is very small, less than a square mile in fact. It is densely populated, and has a lot of housing, but it doesn’t have a ton of commercial areas. The neighborhood itself is spattered with some small restaurants, boutiques, and markets throughout.
When it comes to getting all your groceries, going on a shopping spree, or having a ton of restaurant and bar options at your fingertips, you’ll want to head next door to the Nicollet Mall. Just a short walk through the Loring Greenway will lead you to all the culture, nightlife, and delicious food you could want. Or if you’re tired of the downtown scene, a short walk in the opposite direction will lead you to Uptown, where there are plenty of other options for bars, restaurants, and clubs.
So it’s a toss-up! There won’t be a crazy restaurant and bar scene right next to your apartment in Loring Park, but then again everything you could possibly want is within a fifteen minute walk. If you’re someone that wants to walk out of your home and into a bar then you should look to the North Loop neighborhood of MPLS, but if you don’t mind a little (and we mean little) bit of exercise, then Loring Park is a 10!
Pet-Friendly Loring Park Apartments
We don’t know your pets personally, but we’re pretty certain that your four-legged friends will be very happy living in Loring Park. That giant park we were talking about earlier? Well it just so happens that a dog park was added to it in the late 2000’s and it’s definitely a puppy paradise.
Several nearby establishments like the Loring Kitchen and Bar allow your dog to dine with you. You will also find a variety of vets, pet stores, and groomers in the nearby Uptown area. Many apartments in Loring Park allow cats; while several allow both cats and dogs, so finding housing when you have pets is very simple.
Commuting in Loring Park, MN
We won’t lie to you, having a car in this area can be a total hassle. On-street parking can be a nightmare even if you have a permit for a specific area. When searching for Loring Park apartments, you’ll definitely want to look for a rental that offers a parking space if you have a car.
On the plus side, it’s a really easily commutable area. A majority of people don’t use their cars and opt to walk or use public transport instead. The average commute time for Loring Park residents is 21 minutes, meaning you can get most anywhere in the city within that amount of time.
Perhaps one of the greatest assets of this area is that is has access to the Loring Greenway and Skyway. Thousands of commuters use the landscaped, pedestrian walkway to get to Downtown. From there you can easily access the Skyway where you can shop, commute, and navigate miles of Downtown without facing the harsh winter weather.

The educational options near Loring Park are rated highly compared to most other areas of the city. Younger kids attend Kenwood Elementary School which has a good rating and a low student/teacher ratio. For the older kids, Southwest High School is the zone that they fall in, which is considered to be one of the best high schools in Minneapolis.
There are also some other private options in Loring Park, but to be honest they rank and test lower than the public school options. So why pay more? Or at least that’s what we always say…
