Overview of Minneapolis

Lowry Hill East, aka “The Wedge,” aka Uptown (although technically Uptown takes up a corner of four neighborhoods but We’ll Take It!) is one of the most in-demand places to live in Minneapolis. We thought about comparing Lowry Hill East to Downtown, but that might actually shortchange all the distinctive advantages there are to living in this area. Sure, Lowry Hill apartments get the abundant amenities, eclectic shops, and urban feel of Downtown, but additionally they get extremely easy access to the Chain of Lakes. The perfect balance of urban and outdoors? We’ll take it!

Housing in Lowry Hill East is very diverse, ranging from prewar apartment buildings to Victorian-era style homes that have been split into multi-family units. Uptown Minneapolis apartments do tend to get rented quickly because of their charm and conveniences. But never fear! Our faithful robots have the connections to help you rent the perfect apartment.

Arts & Culture in Uptown

Minneapolis is certainly a growing hub for artists, and Uptown is no exception. Lowry Hill East is home to some of the city’s finest artistic attractions such as: Intermedia Arts; the Lagoon, Uptown, and Jungle Theaters; the Uptown Art Fair, the Soo Visual Arts Center; and countless others.

The commercial area of the Lowry Hill East neighborhood is also packed with independent boutiques and theaters. Simply walk down the street to treat yourself with a day of retail therapy or indulge your imagination by watching the latest theater production. You don’t even have to venture far to find whatever it is that you’re looking for.

Food & Nightlife in Lowry Hill

What can we say? Minneapolis foodies are loud, proud, and in abundance. In a city known for its food, there are about 340 restaurants, bars, and coffee shops in the neighborhood of Lowry Hill East alone. The food and nightlife in Uptown is definitely one of the main reasons people jump at the chance to live here. Most Lowry Hill apartments are within a very short walking distance to all the options for food and entertainment that you could possibly want.

Nightlife in Lowry Hill East is centered on the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street. The bars and the neighborhood itself generally attract a young, trendy crowd that enjoys fine food and crafty drinks. This intersection in particular gets really busy on the weekends, so if you’re looking to be close to the bars or if you’re trying to steer away from the street traffic, you might want to plan your apartment search with those streets in mind.

Pet-Friendly Apartments in Uptown

Your furry friends will most likely be very pleased with the comforts that Lowry Hill East has to offer them. There are plenty of vets in the area to help keep them healthy, fun and friendly dog walkers and daycares to keep them active, and several pet stores with delicious treats to boot! There’s no dog park in Uptown, but some Lowry Hill apartments are within easy walking distance of the Loring Park Dog Park.

And remember, Lowry Hill is super close to the Chain of Lakes, which is the ultimate outdoor playground for dogs and humans alike!

Commuting Options

The fantastic transit options are just another reason why Lowry Hill East is a convenient place to live. If you prefer to bike, this neighborhood has access to the Midtown Greenway, a bike thoroughfare that connects to the Chain of Lakes and destinations to the east. If you prefer bus, the Uptown Transit Center is a hub for many popular routes.

Most of your daily business and small shopping can be done on foot. If you don’t own a car or don’t want to use the one you own, Lowry Hill East is an easy commute to most anywhere in the city.

Education Options

The community of Calhoun Isles is served by many highly rated schools and is a popular area for families with young children. Kenwood Elementary is where Lowry Hill East residents begin their education, but once kids reach the 6th grade they have multiple options for both middle schools and high schools. All options for schools are among the highest rated in Minneapolis so you can just pick the most convenient school or conduct your own research to see which one is ideal for your little one!
