Overview of Minneapolis

With the highest density rate in Minneapolis, Stevens Square covers a small geographic area just south of downtown. The urban residential neighborhood features historic architecture, a convenient location, and a large park. Residents are within walking distance of some of the best attractions in the Twin Cities. When you consider most homes were built before 1940, then add the three and a half story brownstone apartments associated with the area, the older buildings create a sense of history. The official citizens group, the Stevens Square Community Organization, has worked to improve landscapes and plant and maintain flower beds, which is just one of the ways Stevens Square has changed and maintained its reputation as a great place to live.

Stevens Square Minneapolis Apartments

Situated in the Stevens Square's Minneapolis Heritage Preservation District, most rental properties were built prior to the 1940's. Newcomers looking for apartments in Stevens Square will discover a variety of newer condominiums and old mansions divided into modern apartments. Apartment rent prices in the tall historical buildings range from about $560 for a studio to the mid-1300's for three bedroom units. While rental prices reflect the size and quality of rental units, the average housing cost in Steven's Square tends to be slightly lower than most Minneapolis neighborhoods.

With the city's theater district less than a mile away, you can enjoy entertainment at world-class venues like Guthrie Theater and the Children's Theater. The Minnesota Orchestra, the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, and Walker Art Center are a few of the many cultural places close to Stevens Square. You can opt for contrasting experiences by checking out shows at the Minneapolis Convention Center and browsing a few of Nicollet Avenue's designer shops. Also known as 'Eat Street', Nicollet Avenue features cuisine from around the world. You can munch on a hot dog from a vendor's cart or dine at a classy formal meal at a gourmet restaurant.

Steven's Square Park hosts local festivals attracting people from surrounding neighborhoods. You can enjoy a variety of music, theater, and art events in Steven's Square Park or relax at the playground and basketball court. Walking paths shaded by mature trees are handy for dog owners.

Pet Friendly Apartments in Stevens Square

Many rentals allow pets but it is not too practical to own a dog if you rent an apartment on the third floor or share a condo with no outside space. Definitely look for apartments that have lower leval units available if you have a dog. Otherwise, cats, fish, or a parakeet might be better options for a pet in this heavily populated urban area.

Commuting From Stevens Square Minneapolis

Public transportation is easily accessible in Steven's Square with major bus routes and the Skyway system within a few blocks. Innovative options for getting around town include programs called HOURCAR and Nice Ride. If you want avoid the hassle of finding parking space and the expense of car ownership but you still need to drive to see relatives, you can join the HOURCAR club. A reasonable membership fee allows drivers to reserve a vehicle for scheduled times. With drop off spots throughout the city, the car club is convenient with reliable low cost rates. HOURCAR includes insurance, gas, and all fees associated with driving so you won't be surprised with hidden charges. Nice Ride is a similar club for bicyclists. Bicyclists pay a small membership fee to be able to take a bike from stations located throughout the city and return it to any station in the network. You can bike to a funky bar on Nicollete Avenue, park the bike when you hook up with friends to see a Broadway show at the Guthrie, and take the Skyway home.

Schools & Educational Opportunities

Families hoping for a local school within walking distance won't find it in this urban setting. Overall, Minneapolis Public Schools and Minneapolis Public Alternative Schools offer quality educational facilities while charter schools focus on study in targeted disciplines. You can check out area schools to match your child's need to the school's curriculum.
