Living in New Hope, MN
New Hope’s history begins in the early 1900s when the town was primarily a farming community. The area was a part of Crystal Lake Township and was the home to many farming families when housing developments moved west away from Minneapolis in the 1930s. The formation of the city of Crystal wasn’t supported by the area’s rural residents leading them to break away and create their own township. In reflection of the time and what the residents were hopeful for, they named the town New Hope.
But by the early 1950s, residents of New Hope couldn’t escape becoming a city without losing part of its land. Farmers were still unhappy with the decision, although the incorporation spurred a rapid development of the town and an influx of people to the area. Today, farmers are still recognized at the New Hope Farmers Market, which was founded in 2009.
