Overview of St. Joseph

St. Joseph, Missouri, nicknamed St. Joe by residents, was distinguished as one of America's fastest growing economies by USA Today in 2012. Approximately 30 miles away from the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and nestled alongside the Missouri Review, St. Joseph is the ideal community for families and young professionals looking for an apartment to rent.

Living in St. Joseph

The city was incorporated in 1843 due to the efforts of a prosperous fur trader named Joseph Robidoux. It was originally a busy trading post and was, until the end of the Civil War, the furthest point west reached by railroads. In the 19th century, the city became famous as the point of origin for the Pony Express. It’s also known as the location where the outlaw Jesse James died. The city’s current population is approximately 127,00, and apartment renters living here will find that there are many interesting historical attractions that commemorate the city's colorful history.

For a day outing with the family there are several museums in the area that both children and adults will find fascinating. The Pony Express National Museum has events and exhibits celebrating the nation’s first major mail delivery system.

Patee House Museum, which is a National Historic Landmark, was at one time a hotel and later the Pony Express headquarters. It is also a block away from where Jesse James was killed. The museum has exhibits on these and other topics of historic interest. The area also has plenty of contemporary culture to celebrate. The Missouri Theater hosts a variety of performances, including symphonies, musicals, plays and other entertainment.

If you are planning to move to St. Joseph, you can find quite a few neighborhoods with apartments for rent. Families with kids will find a variety of high ranking elementary, middle and high schools in the area. Young single professionals will find that there is a good variety of culture and entertainment, including restaurants, clubs and theaters in the downtown district.

The easiest way to get around the area is by car. Both I-29 and US 36 pass through the city, making it easy to drive to locations such as Kansas City. Other routes that run through the city include Missouri Route 6, US 169 and US 59. There is a bus system that serves the area as well, providing a total of eight routes.

Apartments in St. Joseph-Study

Students can find several colleges and universities in the area. Northwest Missouri State University, whose main campus is in Maryland, Missouri, also has a St. Joseph campus, which offers a variety of programs in the field of education.
