Neighborhood Information for Las Vegas Strip, Las Vegas
Living on the Las Vegas Strip, NV
Renting an apartment on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada will have you living in one of two unincorporated townships south of the city of Las Vegas. What few visitors to “Sin City” realize is that The Strip runs through the townships of Paradise and Winchester and that its actual name is Las Vegas Boulevard. Strictly, The Strip includes that part of the boulevard between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road, which is just over four miles in length and the area closely adjacent on either side.
The first hotel was built on The Strip in 1941. Mobster Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo in 1946, followed by the Desert Inn in 1950. It was the success of these early resorts that led the political leaders of Las Vegas to attempt an annexation of the area in the early 50s. Local business owners thwarted that move, which led to the founding of the unincorporated townships of Paradise and Winchester.
Interestingly, the names Winchester and Paradise don’t appear in any postal addresses. The U.S. Postal Service has given all addresses these two townships a Las Vegas zip code.
The Las Vegas Strip is South of the city of Las Vegas. Other neighborhoods in the area include East Las Vegas, Henderson, and Enterprise.
