Overview of Brick

Brick is a township located in the vertical center of the state of New Jersey, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 46 miles south of the city of Newark. The township is actually a part of the New York metropolitan area, but in New Jersey's Ocean County. Brick apartments for rent are excellent ways to join the growing population of more than 76,100 people living within the town's 26.2 square miles.

While the township is located on the mainland of New Jersey, a number of its beaches are located on the Barnegat Peninsula, which is a strip of land separating Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. Brick residents enjoy an extra level of safety, as Brick was named "America's Safest City" by a Morgan Quitno nationwide study conducted in 2006.

Residents of Brick apartments can enjoy living in a community with a rich history. The area that is now known as Brick was formerly inhabited by the Lenape Native American tribes, who were drawn to the land for its fishing and hunting grounds. Brick was incorporated as a township in 1850, and this area saw rapid and substantial development near the end of the 1800s and into the beginning of the 1900s as the New Jersey Shore line grew in popularity. With its increased popularity, the area involved into a resort spot and the tourism industry became a main economic player. Brick saw another spurt of population growth in the 1950s from people relocating from big cities like New York City and Newark.
