Ewing, NJ, is a township in Mercer County. It is located roughly five miles northwest of Trenton, 36 miles northeast of Philadelphia, 62 miles southwest of New York City and 174 miles northeast of Washington, D.C.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Ewing had a population of 35,790 residents in 2010, and the township anticipates the area's population will continue to grow. Ewing's first known inhabitants were the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The area's location along the Delaware River made it conducive for farming, fishing and hunting. The region was a member of the Hopewell Township and became part of Trenton in 1719. The area was officially declared the township of Ewing in 1834, and was named in honor of Charles Ewing, a former Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
There is 15.1 square miles of land in Ewing. The township hosts several county and state facilities, including the College of New Jersey and Trenton-Mercer Airport.
The Ewing Township Public Schools district features three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. These educational institutions serve Ewing students from kindergarten through grade 12.
Check out The College of New Jersey, which was named one of the top public colleges in the north for 2013 by U.S. News and World Report. This school was founded in 1855 and was ranked by Barron's Profiles of American Colleges as one of the 75 "Most Competitive" institutions in the country. The 289-acre campus features 14 residence halls and 39 buildings, and accommodates 3,600 students. Its full-time undergraduate enrollment is 6,200 students, 95 percent of whom are from the Garden State.
Thomas Edison State College in Trenton is one of 12 senior public institutions in the Garden State. This school was one of the first schools in the United States specifically designated for adult education and provides students with certificate and degree programs in more than 100 specialties.
