The borough of Fort Lee is located in northeastern New Jersey, approximately three miles northeast of North Bergen and roughly seven miles north of New York City. It is rumored that George Washington marched his troops down the road in Fort Lee that is now known as Main Street.

In Fort Lee's early years, the area was inhabited by pronounced immigrant communities. Fort Lee was officially incorporated March 29, 1904.
