Overview of Hamilton

Hailed as “America’s Favorite Hometown,” Hamilton embodies the best aspects of small-town America. A vibrant, diverse community, Hamilton is a great place to raise a family. The area boasts beautiful gardens, a strong local economy and acclaimed local eateries that have won Hamilton the title of “Restaurant Capital of Mercer County.” Hamilton residents enjoy a high quality of life in central New Jersey, located 60 miles from New York City, Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore.

Officials here were inspired by Herman Melville’s words, “… every journey turns home again,” and have run the town on the idea that home is a feeling that reflects how well we live. With a comfortable, community-driven atmosphere, like-minded people move to the area in droves, joining the 92,000 residents who already call Hamilton home. Rent a Hamilton apartment and experience the feeling for yourself.

Living in Hamilton, NJ

Established in 1686, Hamilton is one of Mercer County’s oldest formal settlements. Three of the town’s four boundaries are bodies of water – Assunpink Creek, Crosswicks Creek and the Delaware River – which easily demonstrates Hamilton’s long-standing connection with the natural land. The town’s historical society maintains several sites throughout the city, including beautiful old homes, the Grounds for Sculpture and the Civil War and Native American Museum.

Though the first settlers to the area were Episcopalians, Hamilton has welcomed people of many spiritual backgrounds, with Quakers, Presbyterians and Baptists each dominating the area in some period of Hamilton's history. Today the town has no clear religious distinction, making Hamilton apartments accessible for everyone.

Hamilton Work and Study

Hamilton is a great place to live for students who take classes at one of the many schools in the area. Located 13 miles away, Princeton University is by far the most prestigious in the area. Thomas Edison State College, Rider University and Rutgers University, as well as a slew of community colleges and trade schools, offer great opportunities for students and individuals trying to further their education.

Those looking for work can contribute to Hamilton’s thriving economy. Many residents work in small businesses in the area and help Hamilton maintain its small-town appeal. Meridian Health and Novo Nordisk are also in the area, and both made the list of Top 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2012. Business professionals who work in New York City also often look for rentals in Hamilton to escape the hustle of city life for something a little more serene.

Rentals in Hamilton, NJ and Cost of Living

The appeal of Hamilton’s central location is shown through the city's high cost of living. According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics, the average rent price is $1,604 a month. That’s nearly double the national average, but people here don’t seem to mind. With beautiful, scenic surroundings and a close proximity to two of the best cities in the northeastern United States, residents get the best of both exciting, big city living and the quiet calm of the country.

Hamilton Attractions and Special Events

Hamilton is home to the nationally acclaimed Grounds for Sculpture, where art lovers flock to be inspired by the 35-acre sculpture park. There are a number of other parks in the area, including Veterans Park, Sayen Botanical Gardens and Kuser Farm Park, where residents enjoy the beautiful weather of the warmer months.
