Overview of Maple Shade
Maple Shade’s motto is "Nice town, friendly people." It has all of the conveniences of a larger town but also a historic touch as seen in the charming Main Street neighborhood. Renting in this township is ideal for commuters who prefer to come home to a quieter neighborhood. If you have to commute to bustling Philadelphia, the state capital at Trenton or one of the major medical centers and universities in Camden, you can look forward to returning to a clean, close-knit South Jersey community with plenty of green spaces.
Living in Maple Shade
Originally named Chester Township in 1688, Maple Shade has deep colonial roots. The rail lines that run along the Delaware River and its tributaries made shipping and manufacturing easier while the town was young. Later on, the rail and waterways served as a convenience for commuters. Maple Shade still keeps its ties to the manufacturing industry, but it’s mostly characterized by its suburban feel within the larger Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. Today, the township is home to about 19,130 people.
Although residents have access to big-city amenities nearby, the town offers its own entertainment too. Every year, Maple Shade hosts a large Sidewalk Sale and Car Show. In the wintertime, you can watch a parade led by Miss New Jersey down Main Street and then listen to live music and sample cuisine from local restaurants as a part of the annual Holiday Festival. During the summer, Main Street has a farmers’ market where you can select fresh produce and shop for treasures from local craftspeople.
Renters in Maple Shade rest easy knowing they have a short trip if they commute. The major highways such as Route 73, Route 38 and Interstate 295 make the trip to Philadelphia, Camden, Trenton and Atlantic City a breeze. The River Line light rail system has nearby stations in Pennsauken and Palmyra, and it connects points between Trenton and Camden with transfers to Septa, PATCO and New Jersey Transit rail lines that go to North Jersey and New York City. If you prefer to drive, bridges that lead directly into Philadelphia, such as the Tacony-Palmyra and Betsy Ross, are only about a 10 minute ride away, making travel to the city for business or pleasure a simple journey.
