Mount Holly is the county seat of Burlington County. It was established as one of the original 104 townships of New Jersey in 1688, but it was originally called Northampton. After pieces of it were integrated into other townships, Mount Holly adapted its current name in 1931. Several homes and buildings that were originally constructed in the colonial era still exist in historic neighborhoods. There are even landmarks and tributes to the township’s rich past such as Battle of Iron Works Hill site from the Revolutionary War.

Today, roughly 10,000 people who rent or own a home in Mount Holly. Even though New Jersey Transit runs buses through the area, commuters often find that it’s easiest to drive in South Jersey. Usually, it’s easy to find free on-street parking, but you may occasionally find a meter in a neighborhood with restaurants. Rush hour can be a bit of a pinch going north or west in the morning, but evening commutes are fairly smooth. Since the rent is cheaper in New Jersey than in Philadelphia, many of those who rent an apartment in New Jersey travel to the city daily.

Route 38, Interstate 295 and County Road 541 (also known as the Mount Holly Bypass) are major highways that connect commuters to destinations such as Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Trenton and Princeton. For more extensive travel, motor coaches leaving from the Greyhound Bus station in nearby Mount Laurel will take you to New York City, Baltimore and beyond.

Apartment renters looking for opportunities in higher education can take advantage of Burlington County College, which has a convenient campus in town. The New Jersey Institute of Technology is close by in Mount Laurel.
