People living in Newton apartments can enjoy discovering the town's interesting past. In 1751, a German immigrant by the name of Henry Harelocker was the first permanent European settler to the area after the site was plotted by Deputy Surveyor Samuel Green in 1715. Newton was incorporated as a town in 1864 by an Act of the State Legislature.

The establishment of roads and turnpikes played a large part in Newton's rise and growth over the years, particularly in its position as a regional service center. When Sussex County received its first railroad in 1854, rapid commercial and residential growth came along with it. With the nickname of the "Pearl of Kittatinny," this community takes pride in retaining its charms and heritage reflected in its settings today.
