The township of Saddle Brook, N.J., is located in northeastern New Jersey in Bergen County, approximately eight miles west from bustling New York City and 12 miles north of Newark. The town is considered to be part of the Bergen-Passaic metropolitan area.

Saddle Brook was originally incorporated on March 20, 1716, as the Saddle River Township. The name was officially changed to Saddle Brook on November 8, 1955. From its beginnings as a town, the area was used primarily for agriculture and small-scale dairy farming, and in the 1900s, the town transitioned into an era of rapid commercial growth.
When soldiers returned from World War II, Saddle Brook experienced a large surge in construction, with farms being replaced with homes and streets. The last marsh area in the township was taken over by the construction of an apartment complex in the early 2000s.
