Overview of Bedford Hills

Bedford Hills, which is a hamlet of Bedford community in northern Westchester County, is one of the best places in the Empire State to live. A unique mix of farms, railroad station, and a bustling business center, as well as the seat of the town's government, Bedford Hills is a wonderful community for families. The area is also an ideal location for commuters, as it is a short drive or train ride to the greater New York City metropolitan area. Many New Yorkers like to live here because it has the small-town atmosphere that is perfect for raising a family - including an excellent private and public school system, but still has all of the amenities of the country's largest metropolis nearby.

Living in Bedford Hills, NY

The hamlet was once known as Bedford Station, due to the railroad that was built here in 1847. Although there is a booming business area near the station today, Bedford area stretches north well into estates and farms and south toward Route 117 and Mt. Kisco.

According to City-Data, the entire town of Bedford, which Bedford Hills is part of, has grown significantly over the years. The population has risen by more than 6 percent from 2000 to 2010, and the median household income in the area has jumped by more than $60,000 in that same time, making it one of the most prosperous areas in New York. The town has a very low unemployment rate - less that 1 percent, nearly 59 percent of residents have a four-year degree, and around 64 percent of residents here are married.
