Living in Brockport, NY
After the Erie Canal was designed, Brockport was established as a village in 1820. The town grew rapidly after the canal reached it, as access to the new waterway allowed industries to develop in the area.
The village was named after Hiel Brockway, a builder who bought large areas of land along Lake Road. The village received the nickname "Red Village" in the 1820s because a large amount of red bricks were produced locally and used to make the early homes. Originally know as Brockway's Port, the village's current name is said to be a shortened version. Brockport was officially incorporated in 1829.
Brockport Attractions and Special Events
There are numerous attractions for people living in Brockport apartments and visitors to enjoy, including a series of notable parks and recreation outlets. Notable parks include Barry Street, Corbett, Harvester, Utica Street, and Remembrance. Many people also enjoy taking a boat out on the Erie Canal for a day.
A popular area attraction for a taste of history is the Morgan-Manning House. The house belonged to some of the first settlers of the area, Dayton S. Morgan and William H. Seymour. The house was built in 1854 and remained in the family for more than 100 years. The house was restored in 1965 after its dedication to the village from Sara Morgan Manning to remain as a testimony to the town's heritage.
