Living in Clinton Hill

Clinton Hill apartments may offer savvy Brooklyn residents a rental with history. Long ago, this area played host to New York City's upper crust. Now, Clinton Hill offers opportunity. As the neighborhoods nearby shoot up in price and cachet, Clinton Hill follows a shot step behind. Here, rents are cheaper, but probably not for long. This neighborhood may not be as polished as places like Cobble Hill, but crime is down and the area is coming up.

Clinton Hill falls between Wallabout Bay, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Prospect Heights, and Fort Greene. It's still showing signs of wear and tear in some areas, but in others, it's glorious. Back in the 1840s, Clinton Hill was a fashionable home for those commuting to Manhattan-via stagecoach and ferry! Fifty years later, Clinton Avenue was covered in mansions, some of which survive still. Charles Pratt is responsible for four of them. He commissioned one for himself and three for his sons. While not all the homes here can be so grand, many will find Clinton Hill worth considering.

Clinton Hill Lifestyle and Entertainment

Clinton Hill's main commercial strip is Myrtle Avenue. There, and in other parts of the neighborhood, you can find ethnic eateries and more. Options include everything from White Castle to Pilar Cuban Eatery and its authentic empanadas. For evening entertainment, there are local watering holes like Rope and wine bars like Olivino. Neither will be likely to break the bank.

Getting your groceries won't be difficult in Clinton Hill. The area is dotted with supermarkets and small stores. It's not the best neighborhood for hitting the boutiques, however. Head to Williamsburg, perhaps. It's also not particularly full of parks. Underwood Park at Washington and Lafayette avenues may be the largest public park in the neighborhood, but the Pratt Institute provides plenty of greenery.

Clinton Hill Info and the Rental Market

Clinton Hill attracts students, artists, and families. You'll also find modern bohemians who prefer to pay less and get more. One-bedrooms average $2,358 a month, but there's a wide gulf between the high and the low rents. Clinton Hill is well known for its Post-Civil War row houses and brownstones. New housing developments have popped up as well.

Transportation isn't out of sight, with only one late night subway to count on. The IND Fulton Street Line and the IND Crosstown Line both run through the south end of the neighborhood. There are several bus routes that serve Clinton Hill, too.

Clinton Hill Resources

Clinton Hill doesn't have much that appeals tourists. The Pratt Institute, one of the countries best undergraduate art schools, attracts a creative crowd. St. Joseph's College's Brooklyn Campus is here as well. There's a local branch of the Brooklyn Public Library on Washington Avenue and a post office on Myrtle Avenue. Brooklyn Community Board No. 2 covers Clinton Hill.

Clinton Hill Zip Codes

Clinton Hill is split between the 11205 and 11238 zip codes.
