Living in Cheektowaga, NY

According to City Town Info, Cheektowaga's name is derived from an Erie-Seneca Indian word, "Ji-ik-do-wah-gah," which means "place of the crabapple tree." The land was transferred to American settlers after the Six Nations were defeated by the Americans during the Revolutionary War. The earliest European settler was Appollos Hitchcock in 1808, and Cheektowaga was officially established in 1839.

During Cheektowaga's early days, it existed mainly as a rural town, with numerous taverns and saw mills, as well as the production of cloth, potatoes, and other grains. Today, residents enjoy being part of one of the most progressive townships in the state of New York.
