Overview of Guilderland
The town of Guilderland is located in eastern New York in Albany County, less than 12 miles northwest of Albany. Guilderland apartments for rent offer attractive living options to join more than 35,000 residents living in the town. Guilderland is lined by two main streams, the Normanskull and the Hungerkill.
The town flag displays a herald coat of arms of the Province of Gelderland in the Netherlands, and the town motto is "Look Forward." The name Guilderland means "Moneyland" in Dutch, named for the area's vast amount of sand which was used for making glass. Interstate 87 provides easy access to Quebec to the north and New York City to the south. Interstate 90 leads east to Hartford and Boston and west to Syracuse and Buffalo. Residents also enjoy access to Interstate 88, which leads southwest to Binghamton, as well as to Albany International Airport.
Living in Guilderland, NY
In Guilderland's early years, the water power from local streams enabled Dutch settlers to build up the town's industry with a glass factory, grist mill, a sawmill, and textile and woolen mills.
Today, Guilderland has grown to a thriving suburban community, home to dynamic and varied commercial and residential areas, a large school district and numerous housing developments. A significant portion of the west side of town continues to maintain its rural and residential profile, according to the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce.
