Living in Lewiston, NY
Much of the history of Lewiston stems from its close proximity to Niagara Falls and its position as the last stop on the Underground Railroad, which allowed slaves to cross the border into Canada in search of freedom. Lewistown was the first European settlement in western New York during the 1600s and 1700s when the French and British traders lived in the area.
Today, many people who live in Lewiston rentals and homes experience the rich history of the town because many of the homes and buildings are still standing from the 1800s. Although many people still cherish the community for its history, it has progressed into a modern commercial, cultural and recreational center.
