Overview of Middle Island
Located along the shores of New York about 50 miles outside of New York City, Middle Island, N.Y., is a tight-knit census-designated community located about halfway between eastern and western ends of Long Island. Consisting of about 8.2 square miles, the town holds about 12,300 residents. It is located within the Town of Brookhaven and part of the Longwood Central School District, the largest system on Long Island. Middle Island became a well-known city in 1766 when the first Presbyterian church was built. As an extension of Long Island, the town's rich history was formed within being one of the first suburbs in United States history. Prestigious Wall Street workers moved to Long Island in the 19th century after the ferry system allowed them to commute to and from work.
Today, Long Island is known for its beautiful landscape and friendly culture. Wall Street is one of the region's top employers, with finance being a huge industry for the area. Real estate and banking are also big players, with retail taking a large portion of the region's employment as well.

Middle Island is a ferry ride away from metropolitan New York, as well as a number of its lovely suburban towns. In addition, New York City's two major airports, LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, are also located on Long Island in the borough of Queens.
