In the 1840s, dirt roads turned into plank roads, the railroad was extended, and an electric trolley was established. This inevitably made it much easier for urbanites to come to the small farming community, and it soon transformed into a bedroom community for Buffalo. Orchard Park remains a quiet, rural town today, even though it has gone through many changes. Since the early 1960s, the community has gathered together each year to celebrate the Quaker Arts Festival. Since the Quaker Arts Festival is a juried event, top entries have been awarded with more than $10,000 in the past.
