New Dorp Beach, Staten Island, NY
Living in New Dorp Beach
New Dorp Beach apartments and rentals put you close to the sand and sea. Located between Oakwood, Midland Beach, New Dorp, and the Atlantic Ocean, this neighborhood feels tucked away in Staten Island. To the northeast, Miller Field blocks traffic. To the southeast, the sea similarly keeps cars away. That's how the diverse residents here prefer it.
New Dorp Beach saw its first European settlement 1671. A two-room structure, “Britton Cottage” was razed to make way for development. A rebuilt version can still be seen in Historic Richmondtown. The neighborhood really began to prosper following the Civil War. A resort, bungalows, and campgrounds took root, followed by piers and hotels. Now, those tourist attractions have been replaced by 10-foot high sand dunes. You can still see remnants of the foundations if you look.
New Dorp Beach Lifestyle and Entertainment
New Dorp Beach isn't busy, but you've got a choice of delis, cafes, and other restaurants in Hylan Shopping Plaza and Tysens Park Shopping Center. These malls on Hylan are your best bet for shopping as well. There's a Super Stop & Shop, a Kmart, and many other stores. You can also go to the local cinema, the UA Hylan Plaza 5. It isn't huge, but it's cheap and clean.
Miller Field and Gateway National Park make up New Dorp Beach's northeast border. This state park is 187-acres of beach, trails, soccer fields, and playgrounds. There's also New Dorp Beach itself, should you want to frolic in the waves.
