Apex was settled in 1867 as the highest point, or “apex” on the Chatham Railroad between Jacksonville, Florida, and Richmond, Virginia. The city faced more setbacks during the Depression-era, but came out with a bang in the 1950s when North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park generated significant residential development in Apex. Most residents here work in the traditional office environment, with 81 percent of residents holding management, sales and office jobs. Science, administration, education and social services encompass 38 percent of these positions, with an additional 16 percent of workers holding jobs in the manufacturing sector. Apex also has many blue collar positions to offer, as 7 percent of local residents hold positions in the service industry.

Participants can sign up in recreational and competitive divisions, making the Turkey Trot 5K accessible to residents of all fitness levels.
