Overview of Ballantyne

If we were to describe Ballantyne, NC in three words they would be upscale, sophisticated, and thriving. Like many other neighborhoods in Charlotte, Ballantyne contains recent development that has attracted many businesses and residents to the area. Specifically, Ballantyne contains a 535 acre corporate park that is filled with major corporations and local businesses alike. Mix that in with the Ballantyne Village that offers an array of restaurants and exciting nightlife and you’ve got yourself a great place to work, live, and play.

This neighborhood is sought-out mostly by professionals and families who seek urban amenities and a comfortable residence. It is both appreciated for all of the available dining, shopping, and entertainment as well as its outstanding school district. This area is definitely not for the renter who is light of wallet, but if you are seeking a place close to work and conveniences, or if you want to have access to some of the best schools in Charlotte, Ballantyne may just be the place for you.

Ballantyne Apartments

Let’s just put it this way—most of the people searching for an apartment in Ballantyne aren’t expecting rent to be cheap. That being said, the prices on most rentals aren’t outrageous by any means. Some apartment complexes in the area have one-bedrooms starting around $740 while a majority of the three-bedroom apartments max out around $2,000. Nearly all Ballantyne apartments come with convenient features like a fitness centers, swimming pools, outdoor grilling areas, and more. And, of course, part of what you’re paying for is location. Most rentals in this neighborhood are a short walk away from some of the best shopping and dining that Charlotte has to offer…which brings us to our next point...

Ballantyne Dining & Entertainment

There are two main shopping centers in the Ballantyne area: the nearby Stone Crest Shopping Center and Ballantyne Village. The Stone Crest Shopping Center tends to be more of a location for errands because it features Target and Harris Teeter Grocery. There are also some fine restaurants and smaller boutiques here, but mostly people frequent Miro and Cantina 1511. Ballantyne Village, on the other hand, is more of a hotspot for entertainment and nightlife. This walkable epicenter of boutiques and eateries is alive with live music in the summer and drink specials year-round. You’ll love spending your weekends catching an independent film at the Ballantyne Village Theatre and sampling several of the award-winning restaurants this area has to offer.

Pet-Friendly Ballantyne Apartments

The apartments in Ballantyne may be fancy, but they certainly don’t seem to be worried about a little pet hair getting on the carpet! All of our listed apartment complexes have pet-friendly units, and some even have designated dog park areas. Additionally, there are many options for pet sitters, groomers, and the South Charlotte Animal Hospital is nearby in Pineville. The very large and very well-maintained Mecklenburg County William R. Davie Dog Park is also a short drive away in Quail Hollow.

Commuting From Ballantyne

One thing that draws most people to the neighborhood of Ballantyne is that they work there. The corporate park in this area employs thousands upon thousands of people, and is home to several large companies including MetLife, ESPN, and Bissell. As a result, most people don’t commute too far from here, but in the case that you’re living here because you want access to the schools, you might be commuting elsewhere.

If that’s the case, Ballantyne is in South Charlotte right by the 485-loop which will take you to I-77 which you can take to Uptown. Sometimes traffic can get a little heavy, and a trip that could take you 20 minutes without traffic will take you more toward 45 minutes. If you are commuting you’ll have to get creative. There are a few options for public transit, but currently there is no direct route to Uptown.

Ballantyne Schools & Education

Ballantyne is home to some of the best public schools that Charlotte has to offer. There are several highly-rated elementary schools in the area including Hawk Ridge Elementary and Endhaven Elementary. Grades 6-8 mostly attend South Charlotte Middle School and then graduate onto Ardrey Kell High. All of these schools test higher than average for the state of North Carolina and are well-reviewed by students, parents, and educators. Of course, if you still want to go the private school route, there are also many options to choose from, such as Charlotte Latin School and Omni Montessori School.
