Living in Hope Mills
Though officially founded in 1891, Hope Mills was home to a number of residents for more than a century. Most of those early settlers opened their own sawmills or worked for a local mill owner. Originally known by the name Little Rockfish Village, some of its oldest buildings still bear the first name of the town. Many of its original buildings, however, were destroyed during the Civil War.
Apartment renters moving to the city today will find that it still retains its historic charm. Several of its buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places, but it also has a number of newer and more contemporary buildings. The population of the city is now just over 15,000 people.
The parks and recreation department in town offers a number of activities for locals, including Pilates, yoga, boxing and dance classes. You and your kids can take part in arts and crafts courses and other programs. The department also runs a basketball league and a softball league.
You can also get active with a trip to Fantasy Lake Water Park. Though the water park isn't in the city, it's only 20 minutes by car. Have fun relaxing in the lazy river or show off your wild side with a trip down one of the water slides or more intense rides.
The Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex is another fun place to visit alone or with kids. Surrounding the museum is a small neighborhood filled with historic buildings, artwork and other exhibits designed to teach you more about Hope Mills and other smaller towns in Cumberland County.
Apartment renters in your area may also want to visit the J. Bayard Clark Park & Nature Center. The center lets you commune with nature and enjoy some amazing views and wildlife as you share lunch with your friends and family. If you visit with a larger group, check with the center about the steps to rent a room or schedule a private tour for your group.
Get to all the places you want to go easily from your apartment with a ride on a Fayetteville Area System of Transit bus. Better known by the acronym FAST, it offers several buses that leave Fayetteville and pick up or drop off passengers in Hope Mills. As the ride to Fayetteville can take 40 minutes or longer, you might prefer having a car to make faster trips.
