Overview of Lexington

Apartment renters consider Lexington, North Carolina, the barbecue capital of the world. Its annual barbecue festival, held in October, is listed in the popular book series “1000 things you need to see before you die.” Located about 60 miles north of Charlotte, and about half that distance to Winston-Salem and Greensboro, the area is centrally located to many amenities of the Piedmont Triad Region often enjoying lower rents than those areas.

Living in Lexington

Founded in 1822 it was considered part of the backcountry of North Carolina. The first occupants would be surprised to know that more than 19,000 occupy the city neighborhoods today. The Davidson County seat is rich with history, well-preserved homesteads and locations honoring those who have served including the NC Vietnam Memorial. While the city government honors the past, they are also forward thinking as they set out directives each year for bringing improvements to the area.

Residents that rent and own in Lexington can choose how much country and how much city they want to experience. Neighborhoods around the Uptown area have a historical charm while housing that is more modern can be discovered in newly developed neighborhoods north of the area near the Childress Vineyards.

Life in Lexington easily connects “hometown” to “homegrown” for apartment renters. The Farmers Market is located in the historic train depot. Every week from May to October, you’ll find a collection of homegrown produce, flowers and plants as well as handmade food items and crafts.

Car, bus and taxi are the main modes of transportation within city limits. Cars are most often used to get around outside the city limits with some bus service beyond city limits. Apartment renters can access Amtrak in just 15 minutes. Redevelopment in Uptown Lexington and the train depot were accomplished with the vision of bringing an Amtrak stop to the area. Once complete, the community should hook up with the Raleigh-Charlotte passenger rail that connects communities to an economic corridor.

The nearest international airports are in Greensboro, Raleigh and Charlotte. Shuttle service may be available. The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation, or PART, provides bus service to the surrounding areas with two stops in the city.
