Overview of Wake Forest

The community of Wake Forest encompasses land in both the Wake and Franklin counties of North Carolina. The town conveniently lies a mere 10 miles north of Raleigh and 250 miles south of Washington, D. C. The Tuscarora people were the first to inhabit the area. Colonists slowly moved in and warring between the two cultures began. The Tuscarora eventually migrated to other locations. In the early 1820s, Dr. Calvin Jones purchased approximately 615 acres of forest-covered land and established a farm. He named the location Forest of Wake. He later sold the property, and on the land, the new owners constructed Wake Forest College. The community grew around the location. In 1956, the institution transformed into a seminary school. Today, Wake Forest has a population of more than 31,000 residents.

The Brevofield Golf Links, the Heritage Golf Club and the Paschal Golf Club all have golf courses and a wide array of comprehensive services if you are a golfing enthusiast. If you rent an apartment here and happen to be a professional sports fan, you will be happy to know that the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team plays at the RBC Center in nearby Raleigh. The Carolina Mudcats minor league baseball team has a facility in Zebulon and the Durham Bulls are headquartered in neighboring Durham.

The town is well-served by a network of major roadways. U.S. Highway 1 runs north and south into and out of the community. Interstates within close proximity include 40, 85 and 95. A transit bus system has routes within the community and travels to nearby Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport is also just 20 miles southwest of the town.

If at some point, apartment renters decide to pursue a degree, the Wake Technical Community College may be the place to start. Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary offers classes, undergraduate and graduate degrees in biblical and church studies. The Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem offers undergraduate classes and graduate programs in a large selection of fields spanning from anthropology to theater.
