Although the first settlers came to the Beavercreek area in the early 1800s, the municipality was not incorporated as a township until 1979. Beavercreek is comprised of several settlements - including Knollwood, Zimmermanville, New Germany, Apple Valley, Spicer, Indian Ripple, Big Beaver Valley and the village of Alpha - and encompasses 26.4 square miles of land. Many Beavercreek residents work at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, one of the largest employers in the state. The base serves as the headquarters for the Air Force Materiel Command, which conducts research, development, testing and evaluation, as well as providing acquisition management services and logistics support for Air Force weapons systems.
Oil well drilling equipment manufacturer Robbins and Myers, one of the largest companies in the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area, has a presence in Beavercreek. Another major employer, Kettering Health Network, is based in the neighboring city of Kettering.
