Living in Bellefontaine, OH
Many European settlements in the Midwest cropped up during the 1800s, and Bellefontaine was no different. After many years of quiet development, the city was eventually chartered in 1820 and became a city. Once the railroad came into town and connected the city to the "Big Four," (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and St. Louis) the business community and population began to take off. By the turn of the 20th century, one in four citizens here worked on the railroad. Although railroad distribution has dwindled in the area over the years, Bellefontaine has learned to reinvent itself, becoming one of the most important small towns in the country for automobile production. Today, the city is home to Ohio's Honda operations and provides many resources to Honda suppliers throughout the country.
Bellefontaine Attractions and Special Events
One of the Buckeye State's biggest tourist attractions is the Ohio Caverns, a system of beautiful caves beneath Bellefontaine's surface. Full of white crystals and jagged terrain, this stunning underground paradise is home to 35 acres of family fun year round.
The area is also home to plenty of fun above ground at Marmon Valley Farms. A true Midwestern venue, the hay rides, horseback riding and farm-fresh produce are among the most popular amenities here.
