The city of Eastlake is located in northern Ohio on the banks of Lake Erie, approximately five miles west of Mentor and 16 miles northeast of Cleveland. The city sits in Lake County and is considered part of the Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria metropolitan area. A particularly popular attraction is the Boulevard of 500 Flags, which is a permanent display of American flags that were erected originally as a memorial to local veterans. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the city added another section to honor Americans who lost their lives when the World Trade Center was attacked. The special section includes two beams taken from the Trade Center, part of a lamp post and granite pieces taken from the towers' lobby.

The city manages several tennis and sand volleyball courts, a skateboard park and dog park, as well as numerous recreational parks. Many residents enjoy heading to the shores of Lake Erie as this is a favorite site for bird-watchers in northeast Ohio.
