Overview of Florence

Florence is Kentucky's eighth largest city, located only 10 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, in Boone County. Florence seems to have taken on the reputation of the "transportation city," as it sits close to I-71, I-75, I-275, the Ohio River and the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Florence apartments for rent could be great ways to get your feet wet in this fast growing city. In fact, Florence is one of the fastest growing cities in the state and, according to the City of Florence, Boone County is the 71st fastest growing county across the nation.

Living in Florence, KY

Florence has undergone a number of name changes over its history. The city was originally known as Crossroads because of the intersecting roads that were found here. Florence then went by the name of Maddenstown, after a farm owner on the Burlington Pike called Thomas Madden. Next, Connersville was the nom du jour, renamed after Madden moved away from the area in 1828. The town was finally renamed Florence to avoid confusion as there was another town called Connersville not too far away, and it was incorporated in 1830.

While the city did suffer some neglect when the railroad dominated the transportation industry, from 1930 to today, Florence has undergone spectacular growth along side of the rise of the automobile. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in July 2011, Florence's population sat at 30,687 people.
