Florence is Kentucky's eighth largest city, located only 10 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, in Boone County. Florence seems to have taken on the reputation of the "transportation city," as it sits close to I-71, I-75, I-275, the Ohio River and the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Florence apartments for rent could be great ways to get your feet wet in this fast growing city. In fact, Florence is one of the fastest growing cities in the state and, according to the City of Florence, Boone County is the 71st fastest growing county across the nation.
Living in Florence, KY
Florence has undergone a number of name changes over its history. The city was originally known as Crossroads because of the intersecting roads that were found here. Florence then went by the name of Maddenstown, after a farm owner on the Burlington Pike called Thomas Madden. Next, Connersville was the nom du jour, renamed after Madden moved away from the area in 1828. The town was finally renamed Florence to avoid confusion as there was another town called Connersville not too far away, and it was incorporated in 1830.
While the city did suffer some neglect when the railroad dominated the transportation industry, from 1930 to today, Florence has undergone spectacular growth along side of the rise of the automobile. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in July 2011, Florence's population sat at 30,687 people.
Florence Work and Study
Due to Florence's location near to Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as being positioned next to three major interstates, Florence is Kentucky's fastest growing city. Professionals living in apartments near Florence can take advantage of the city's diversified economy. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the top occupations in the city include management, business, science and arts occupations followed by sales and office occupations. Some of the area's largest employers are food-processing plants, steel mills and automotive parts manufacturers.
According to the City of Florence, the area plays such a large role within the industrial field because Florence is positioned within 600 miles of approximately 60 percent of the entire U.S. population, 59 percent of the country's purchasing power and roughly 58 percent of all U.S. manufacturing firms.
While the student population directly within the city borders is relatively small, students can be found taking advantage of apartments for rent in Florence. Southwestern College, Beckfield College, The Hair Design School and the Interactive College of Technology can all be found in this city.
