The city of Franklin is located in southwestern Ohio, approximately five miles northeast of Middletown and 28 miles north of Cincinnati. The city is situated in Warren County and is considered part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Franklin was founded by General William C. Schenck in 1796, named after Benjamin Franklin. In 1814, the area was officially incorporated but did not reach city status until 1951.
