The city of Lancaster is located in central Ohio, approximately 27 miles southeast of Columbus. The city is situated in Fairfield County and considered part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The land on which Lancaster is located today was previously inhabited by Native American tribes, and their defeat at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794 and the signing of the Treaty of Greenville in 1796 made the area safe for European settlement. Colonel Ebenezer Zane of Wheeling founded Lancaster on November 10, 1800, and it was incorporated as a town in 1831.
Lancaster offers its residents with family-friendly suburban and rural living. The town is situated in a region of rich agriculture, and many farms pepper the land, from swine to dairy and beef cattle farms. Mt. Pleasant is a well-known landmark in Lancaster; it is a striking rock formation that rises 300 feet above the surrounding plain, providing a stunning view of the town.
