Lewis Center became a village in 1850 when the Lewis family donated land to build a railroad station. The nearby Alum Creek soon became a well-known path on the Underground Railroad. Today, Lewis Center has a population of just under 25,000 people. This rapidly growing community has seen a population increase of 122 percent since the year 2000. Collegiate and professional sports fans will have plenty to do while renting a place in the neighborhood. You can head south on U.S. 23 about 15 miles and watch the Ohio State Buckeyes playing football, basketball, baseball and other sports. You can also catch a game of the Columbus Crew, which is a professional soccer team. Downtown Columbus is only a 20-minute drive from Lewis Center, and you can catch a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game at Nationwide Arena.
You'll need a car to get around in town, as there are not any public transit options available in the community. However, you can drive to nearby Westerville and catch a COTA bus into Columbus. COTA offers bus routes throughout the city, including summertime service to the zoo and year-round service to Port Columbus International Airport.
