Overview of Lewis Center

Lewis Center is a small, exurban community of nearby Columbus, OH. Situated in the heart of Delaware County, this neighborhood is close to attractions such as Alum Creek State Park, the Olentangy River and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Although the community is unincorporated, it is growing at a rapid pace as families from Columbus seek out a safe and family-friendly place to live. If you're looking for excellent schools, proximity to shopping and the convenience of living close to a big city, Lewis Center is a great place to rent an apartment.

Living in Lewis Center

Lewis Center became a village in 1850 when the Lewis family donated land to build a railroad station. The nearby Alum Creek soon became a well-known path on the Underground Railroad. Since the year 2000, the neighborhood has grown in size as many shopping centers and subdivisions were built and began to attract many families.

Today, Lewis Center has a population of just under 25,000 people. This rapidly growing community has seen a population increase of 122 percent since the year 2000. As a small town, the residents place a high level of importance on their excellent school system, youth sports and opportunities for outdoor recreation.

If you're an outdoor enthusiast, you can go hiking at nearby Highbanks Metro Park, which features a 100-foot shale cliff and has nesting bald eagles. You can ride a bike along the scenic Olentangy River Trail. During the summer, you can enjoy water sports at the Alum Creek Reservoir or go fishing in Alum Creek.

Collegiate and professional sports fans will have plenty to do while renting a place in the neighborhood. You can head south on U.S. 23 about 15 miles and watch the Ohio State Buckeyes playing football, basketball, baseball and other sports. You can also catch a game of the Columbus Crew, which is a professional soccer team. Downtown Columbus is only a 20-minute drive from Lewis Center, and you can catch a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game at Nationwide Arena.

You'll need a car to get around in town, as there are not any public transit options available in the community. However, you can drive to nearby Westerville and catch a COTA bus into Columbus. COTA offers bus routes throughout the city, including summertime service to the zoo and year-round service to Port Columbus International Airport.
