Overview of Mason

Mason is the largest city in Warren County in the southwest region of Ohio. The county is nicknamed Ohio’s Largest Playground for the various recreation activities that surround the area. In 1803, Revolutionary War veteran William Mason paid $1,700 at an auction to purchase 640 acres of land in the area now known as Mason. He plotted 16 lots of land in 1815 and named the village Palmira. He passed away in 1832, and two years later more than 40 lots were developed within the community. The name was officially changed to Mason three years later.

For another 125 years, the community remained a small farming community, until voters approved a governing charter in 1969. By 1970, approximately 5,700 residents lived in the town. Mason was incorporated in 1971. Today, developers and business owners created a carefully planned community to serve residents and business of the area.

Mason’s progressive workforce is constantly improving. In the past 15 years, Mason has become home to numerous national companies and is now one of the area’s largest hubs for international business. The industrial facilities in Mason employ nearly as many people that live in the city. The 15 largest employers in Mason provide work for more than 9,000 people, which generate roughly $5.3 million annually in income tax revenue.
