Overview of Miamisburg

Miamisburg may not be the most well-known metropolis in the world, but it's known as Ohio's "Star City" for a number of reasons. Those who look for Miamisburg apartments for rent will find plenty to love about this city of just over 20,000 people.

With a rich Native American and European history dating back centuries and plenty of parks, recreation and economic development, this southwestern Ohio city is the perfect place to settle for people of all walks of life.

Living in Miamisburg, OH

Miamisburg was first established as a community in 1797 as "Hole's Station" when Virginia-born Zachariah Hole settled there with his family and built a stockade to protect himself from Native Americans, a tribe called the Miami Indians. The area gained further recognition in 1818 when four men from Pennsylvania auctioned off 90 lots in the area at a public auction.

The area grew and by 1832 had become an unincorporated village, then achieved city status nearly a century later. The city, located on the left bank of the Miami River, still maintains many of its original buildings in the historic downtown area, and has an array of local landmarks and entertainment activities that attract residents and tourists alike.

Miamisburg Work and Study

Residents in Miamisburg work mainly in healthcare and education, with Kettering Health Network and the Miamisburg City Schools serving as the top two employers. The Avery Dennison office supply company and the government are also major employers in the area.

Families can send children to school through the Miamisburg City Schools, which comprises eight elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

Rentals in Miamisburg, OH and Cost of Living

Miamisburg Attractions and Special Events

One of the largest local attractions in Miamisburg is the Indian Mound, which once served as an ancient burial site for Native Americans. The mound is the most recognizable historic landmarks in the city and is the largest conical burial mound east of the Mississippi River. Residents can enjoy picnics in the park that surrounds the mound and climb to the top for spectacular views of the area.

The historic downtown area also has a host of opportunities for shopping, dining and more historical sightseeing, with many of the city's original taverns, opera houses and other buildings still intact.

Outdoor enthusiasts will also enjoy the many golf courses, parks and other outdoor spaces alongside the river and elsewhere with fields, skate parks and other facilities for community use.

Each year, the city celebrates together with Miamisburg Spring Fling, a weekend-long festival that includes local food and drink, live entertainment, a carnival arts and crafts show and parade for residents of all ages.
