Living in Mount Vernon, OH
The city of Mount Vernon saw its beginnings in 1805 when a small group of travelers from Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland settled into the area and named the growing city after President George Washington's historic home. The city has been growing ever since, having been named an "All-American City" and "Ohio's Most Liveable Community" in the past by several publications. The city also prides itself on its past, having participated in many revitalization efforts to Mount Vernon's historic downtown. According to information from the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the city is home to more than 16,900 residents, and that number is expected to grow as more people find out about everything Mount Vernon has to offer.
Mount Vernon Attractions and Special Events
One of the biggest community events held every year in Mount Vernon is the Dan Emmett Music and Arts Festival held every year in August.
