Overview of Tipp City

Tipp City is the third-largest city in Ohio's Miami County and is strategically located along Interstate 75, six miles north of Interstate 70. It is within 600 miles of 61 percent of the nation's population and 63 percent of U.S. manufacturers, and is 60 miles west of Columbus and 60 miles north of Cincinnati. Additionally, Dayton International Airport is just a 10-minute drive from this city, providing Tipp City residents access to 75 percent of the U.S. population and half of the Canadian population within 90 minutes of air travel.

Those interested in Tipp City apartments for rent will likely appreciate the area's convenient location and useful transportation options. Although the city's commercial and industrial sectors are thriving, the local community maintains a small-town atmosphere despite the economic growth.

Living in Tipp City, OH

Tipp City was founded in 1840 as Tippecanoe City, in honor of presidential candidate William Henry Harrison and the heroism he displayed during the 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe. In its early days, Tipp City was a hub of shipping and trading, and provided a shipping lane north to Lake Erie and south to the Ohio River at Cincinnati. The rise of the railroad age in the 1850s and 1860s spurred the growth of many towns, but had the opposite effect on this municipality as the use of the canals waned, along with the area's growth.

In 1875, Tipp City merged with the unincorporated town of Hyattsville. The merger, in conjunction with the development of U.S. Highway 25 and Interstate 75, kickstarted growth in the area once again. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Tipp City encompassed 7.53 square miles of land in 2010 and had a population of 9,689.

Tipp City Work and Study

Tipp City's school system has earned acclaim from across the state. On the Ohio Department of Education's 2010-2011 State Report Card, the district met all 26 performance indicators and earned a rating of "excellent." It is comprised of two elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school and one high school, all of which feature well-stocked libraries and state-of-the-art computer labs.

In terms of further education, Edison State Community College, located in nearby Piqua, is less than a half-hour drive from Tipp City. Sinclair Community College, the University of Dayton and Wright State University are other local options. Those living in apartments near Tipp City who don't mind a longer commute may be interested in Antioch University, Cedarville College, Central State University or Urbana University (all less than an hour's drive away), while Miami University and Ohio State University are within 75 miles.

Tipp City's major employers hail from a range of industries. They include a 2.5 million square foot Meijer distribution center, the Tip Top Canning cannery, online and mail order distributor Trophy Nut Company and Spring Hill Nursery, a national mail-order plant nursery and garden center.

Rentals in Tipp City, OH and Cost of Living's March 2012 cost of living index placed the cost of living in Tipp City at 95.4, below the national average of 100. The median gross rent for apartments in Tipp City is $679, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Tipp City Attractions and Special Events

Tipp City's Historic District is listed on the National Historic Register and features shops, restaurants, historic homes and commercial buildings that date back to the 1800s.

Sports fans need only drive one hour south on I-75 to support the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, while there are plenty of college sports events to be enjoyed in Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton. For the largest car show in Miami County, residents don't have to go far. The annual Tipp City Mum Festival features a parade, motorcycle run, continuous live entertainment and family-friendly activities, attracting nearly 40,000 people every year.
