By March 1803, the Ohio General Assembly passed an act to separate Hamilton County with Butler County, which was named after Revolutionary War hero, General Richard Butler. Twenty years after that, the County Commissioners petitioned to split Liberty Township with a region called Union Township. To this day, no one is clear why the officials chose Union as the name. During this time, there were no roads and the trails weren’t suitable to be used as a primary means of transportation. After some time, the Miami Erie Canal was extended to the community, as well as the railroads.

The community was known as Union Township for more than 100 years until 2000 when the name was changed to West Chester.

Residents living in West Chester have a diverse workforce to choose from. In Butler County, some of the top employers include Miami University, AK Steel, Cincinnati Financial Corporation, Butler County Government, Lakota School District GE Aviation and BAE Systems.

Many take advantage all the activities offered in downtown Cincinnati, like the Annual Oyster Festival each spring.  The event happens at Washington Platform Restaurant and Saloon, where guests pick from an extensive menu of more than 40 types of shellfish prepared by award-winning chefs.
