Overview of Beaverton

Central Beaverton is a neighborhood that is proud of their history, and uses it to maintain a strong, active community following. Everywhere you go, you are reminded of the history with signs and plaques. The power company that created the community is gone, but the classic architecture remains and is now home to a number of hip storefronts.

Central Beaverton Apartments & Rentals

Rent for apartments in Central Beaverton starts about about $850 for a one-bedroom apartment to $1700-1800 for a larger, higher end apartment or town home. Much of Central Beaverton has new buildings, so you will find that the rent is justified by high-end amenities and building materials and trouble-free construction. It is less expensive than Portland, which makes it an attractive choice for many who want to live nearby but can't afford an apartment downtown.

Dining & Entertainment in Central Beaverton

Portland itself is a foodies' paradise, and has a worldwide following in the gourmet food truck industry. Some of this has found its way to Beaverton, though most of the national and regional chain restaurants are there as well. If you are looking for authentic ethnic food, there are a number of restaurants, particularly Asian and Mexican, that can be found nearby without going downtown. If you like simple family food and diners, again, there is much to choose from. Entertainment in the area includes movies as well as community events like Central Beaverton's Theatre in the Park.

Pet Friendly Apartments in Central Beaverton

Oregonians love their dogs, and Central Beaverton is no exception. In the walking shopping areas, many stores are pet friendly and will have dog bowls outside their shops and outdoor eating areas where Fido is welcome. Dog parks, spas, day care facilities, boutiques, groomers, natural bakeries and generic pet supply stores are in abundance here, and almost anyone around can recommend their favorite vet out of the many choices available in Central Beaverton.

Central Beaverton Commuting Options

Portland’s suburbs boast one of the best light rail systems in the nation, called MAX. All of Central Beaverton is walking distance to the train, and will find it a short, easy ride into Portland. Downtown Portland is one of the friendliest bike cities and most walkable downtown areas in the nation, with smaller city blocks than many areas. Because of this and limited parking downtown, car commuting is rarer. If you do go by car, be prepared to pay for parking, and learn which bridges are one-way, and which are two. This can be very confusing for a newcomer to the neighborhood.

Schools in Central Beaverton Oregon

Because of the high number of self-professed computer nerds in the area, Portland is an area of very high quality schools with a lot of community support. Beaverton is no exception to this, and their public schools consistently rate 9 and 10 on the national scale, with a number of specialized options like Spanish Immersion and Science and Technology. For those who still prefer private school, there are over 200 available in the greater Portland area, and many in the Central Beaverton neighborhood. In addition to college prep, there are a number of alternative education principles like Montessouri and Waldorf, and religious schools in most denominations of Christianity and a number of other faiths as well. However, the region is very multicultural, and those considering a school to allow their children access to more hindus, muslims or jews will find that the public schools are already quite diverse.
