The Tualatin Native American tribes were the first group of people to live in the Sherwood area. However, white settlers began coming to the area in 1853 to try their luck at farming the local soils. Many farmers could remain largely self-sufficient and only needed to journey to Portland every few months for things like sugar and syrup.
