The borough of Ambler is located in southeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 16 miles north of Philadelphia. It encompasses 0.85 square miles and was home to nearly 6,500 people in 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Those in the market for Ambler apartments for rent may be attracted by the area's small-town charm as well as its proximity to the City of Brotherly Love. Those living in the borough have access to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's public rail and bus services, which make it extremely easy to commute to or visit Philadelphia.

Living in Ambler, PA

Ambler is named after Mary Johnson Ambler, who lived in the area in the mid-1800s. Upon hearing the news of an incident dubbed the Great Train Accident that took place in July 1856, Ambler reportedly walked two miles to the site where two trains had collided near the town of Wissahickon. She took charge at the scene, directing relief efforts by encouraging people to make stretchers out of window shutters and turn sheets and petticoats into bandages. She also allowed many of the survivors to stay at her house while they recovered. In 1869, town officials acknowledged her efforts by renaming the local railroad station in her honor. When the borough was incorporated in 1888, it took the same name.

Ambler Work and Study

Ambler is part of the Wissahickon School District, which is comprised of five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district serves approximately 4,655 students in Lower Gwynedd Township and Whitpain Township, in addition to the borough of Ambler.

The borough's largest employer is the Artman Lutheran Home, which provides personal care and rehabilitation services for local residents. Many people in Montgomery County work in the healthcare industry - Main Line Health Systems, Abington Health and Holy Redeemer Health Systems are three of the county's top five employers, with workforces of 14,000, 6,387 and 3,414 people, respectively.

Those living in Ambler rentals may be interested in attending the numerous colleges and universities in Philadelphia, including Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania. Temple University has a 187-acre Ambler campus attended by approximately 3,500 students.

Montgomery Community College is another local option, with a central campus in the nearby town of Blue Bell, while Gwynedd-Mercy College is located in the nearby Gwynedd Valley.
