Located just six miles from downtown Pittsburgh, PA but still maintaining a rural feel, the old-timey borough of Carnegie is an accessible and charming place to call home. Few cities in America still have a traditional main street, but this strong community boasts a fine one.
Many residents who live in Carnegie apartments for rent love the fact they live in a borough that has stood the test of time for more than 100 years, showing its vitality and toughness. At the 2010 U.S. Census the borough housed nearly 8,000 residents, making it a perfect mix of small-town atmosphere and urban amenities in the Keystone State.
Living in Carnegie, PA
The borough was named after Andrew Carnegie, a the titan of the steel industry who was one of the wealthiest men in U.S. history; however, Carnegie but was still a philanthropist. In fact, the Andrew Carnegie Library and Music Hall that he built in the area many years ago still stands atop Library Hill - almost as if it is keeping watch over the borough.
Today, the area is also one of the most affordable places in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area to live, as the cost of living index is more than four points below the national average, according to City-Data. The area has a mix of both single residents and families, meaning that this is a diverse community. However, the borough enjoys exceptionally low crime rates and excellent schools, making it an ideal location for couples with children.
Carnegie Attractions and Special Events
One of the biggest events of the year in Carnegie that many residents look forward to is the annual summer Carnegie Arts and Heritage Festival, a three-day event of music and entertainment on three stages - all in downtown's Main Street. Residents here can enjoy a battle of the bands, traditional Italian sandwiches, arts and crafts, and plenty of activities for the kids.
