Although it is a relatively small town, people looking for Clarks Summit apartments for rent will find community spirit and many recreation opportunities.
Living in Clarks Summit, PA
Clarks Summit celebrated its bicentennial in 2011, but its history dates back to its founding father, Deacon William Clark, for whom the town was named. He settled in the area in 1799, and many Irish and German immigrants followed. The area was a quiet country town until the completion of the Northern Electric Street Railway in 1906. At that time, land was opened up for development to accommodate all of the people relocating to the area.
Clarks Summit residents today often commute to work in nearby towns such as Scranton, which is less than 10 miles away. The area's most prominent industries include scientific and technical services, retail trade and health care and social assistance. Residents enjoy close proximity to several medical centers and institutes of higher education, including the University of Scranton and Marywood University. Because of the borough's small population, its government pays special attention to community-oriented issues such as local recycling, citizens' safety and upkeep of property around the town. Residents can take part in fitness and health programs through the Waverly Community House and enjoy all that's offered at the Abington Community Library.
Clarks Summit Attractions and Special Events
Individuals and families renting an apartment in Clarks Summit enjoy several golf courses and parks in the area, including Lackawanna State Park. Residents and visitors alike also enjoy many opportunities to learn about the county's past at sites such as the Lackawanna County Coal Mine, Steamtown National Historic Site and the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum.
