East Norriton began out of one of the earliest decisions on how to govern the state's people. Pennsylvania's founder, William Penn, was authorized to break up counties into towns, and did so beginning in 1682. East Norriton was included in one of the earliest towns, which was created by Penn in 1689. East Norriton was incorporated in 1909, after Norriton Township was broken into an East and West Norriton.

They have access to three hospitals within two miles and two Amtrak stations within 11 miles. East Norriton has been a "town twin" with Treptow, Germany, since April 1991, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The first democratically elected mayor, Michael Brückner, contacted East Norriton Township to establish a partnership program. East Norriton maintains its ties with Treptow and is making an effort to further its connections through an exchange program.
