People from all walks of life are attracted to Greensburg and search for Greensburg apartments for rent so they can reside in one of Pennsylvania’s notable cultural hubs.

Living in Greensburg, PA

Greensburg’s history dates back to the days after the Revolutionary War, when an inn was built on a wagon trail that stretched from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. Several families made their home in this area, and in 1786 a log courthouse was built as the center of town. The area surrounding the courthouse was named after the Revolutionary War General Nathaniel Greene and became an incorporated borough in 1799. In 1928, Greensburg became a third-class city.

Today, the fact that Greensburg doesn’t have any major industry is a blessing, city officials say. Economic downturns do not affect the city as much as the rest of the country, and Greensburg still offers many activities for its residents. People can play all sorts of sports at the city’s Lynch Field Complex, which includes an ice arena, a swimming pool, an aerobic center, walking and bike trails, baseball and soccer fields, playgrounds, and picnic pavilions. There is also a golf course at Mt. Odin Park and community events offered at Seton Hill University.

Greensburg Attractions and Special Events

Adults and children become culturally enriched through the myriad of offerings in Greensburg. Children can experience a state-of-the-art children’s section at the Greensburg-Hempfield Area Library, which boasts modern technology paired with a stunning design. The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, which opened in 1959, is renowned for its collection of Pennsylvania art and artists. Many shows are offered through The Palace Theatre, the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, Greensburg Civic Theatre and Seton Hill University Performing Arts Center.

When residents want to travel out of the city, they have the option of taking an Amtrak train or flying out of the Pittsburgh International Airport.
